It’s time to fire your clients!

One of the freedoms of owning your own business is the ability to choose the types of clients you WANT to work with. At certain times during your business you may have agreed to work with a not-so-ideal client for many reasons–maybe money was tight.

As we go into a new year I recommend that you adopt a new way of doing business and only work with clients that truly bring you joy which means that you may have to fire a few–or many 🙂 You should create a red velvet rope policy of who you desire to work with. (And have the courage to stick to the policy)

In order to determine the type of clients you should select, create a grading criteria similar to what we had in school with an A,B,C,D,F format. For my business, an A client is one who is coachable, does not make excuses, stays in action and has the authority and ability to buy from me and pay on time. The scale downgrades from there.

Once you have created your criteria I recommend having candid conversations with your B and C clients to see if you can get them to A or B status. If not, they’re gone. As for your D and F clients……well I’d begin practicing your Donald trump voice and the famous “point!”

As you begin to take on new clients, only accept those that meet your A and B criteria. You’ll be glad you did!!!
